Robby Murphy, Corporate Communications Intern, Valent U.S.A.
The reason I chose Valent U.S.A. traces back to my passion for corporate communications and the opportunity to work with a leading company in the agricultural industry. It was truly inspiring and reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career in agriculture.

Garret Platz, R&D Intern, Midwest Agricultural Research Center
Coming to Valent to intern at their Midwest Agricultural Research Center (MWARC) was not initially part of my plan for an internship during college. I started out at Parkland College as a Precision Agriculture major and later decided to transfer to a 4-year school to study agronomy. I made this switch because I realized that no matter how much technology is used, achieving maximum yield depends is dependent on planting in healthy soil and utilizing the right crop solutions. This realization led me to focus on two aspects of agronomy that interested me: crop nutrition and crop protection. And, interning for Valent U.S.A. has further solidified my interest.
The faculty at Valent MWARC are excellent mentors who respect my desire to learn. From lab scientists to field development technicians, everyone has been supportive and encouraging of my growth. This willingness to support others is demonstrative of the positive Valent U.S.A. culture. I have had numerous opportunities to learn about herbicides, seed protection, and diseases—essential aspects of agronomy. Another valuable aspect of this internship is the networking opportunities available, which have been abundant. Building connections in the agricultural industry will help me navigate my career path.
One of the most enjoyable parts of my work on the farm is assisting with formulations and mixes. This experience teaches me the correct order for mixing crop solutions and introduces me to active ingredients and brand names I may work with in the future, especially if I pursue crop consulting.
After this summer internship concludes, I plan to transfer to Iowa State University to major in agronomy. Iowa State's location aligns with my career goals, and it is renowned for its agriculture programs. The decision to attend Iowa State was clear to me due to its strong reputation and the allure of "Hilton Magic."
My internship at Valent MWARC has been a valuable experience, and I look forward to continuing to learn and meet new people throughout the remainder of the summer.
