Control Tough Corn Weeds with Maverick® Herbicide

Maverick^® Corn Herbicide applied postemergence provides superior, long-lasting control of tough weeds such as Palmer amaranth, ragweed, marestail, foxtail and morningglory.

“Residuals have become a big part of our programs, especially for controlling waterhemp and marestail,” says Rob Shaffer of Shaffer Farms. “Maverick has done a really good job controlling those weeds.”

Maverick offers application flexibility on corn up to 18 inches tall or the V6 growth stage, helping ensure growers—not the weather—determine application timing.

For Shaffer, applying Maverick during dry preplant conditions still delivered strong results. “A half-inch of timely rain was all we needed,” he says. “Maverick kicked in and we had clean fields because of the residual.”

With a broad application window from preemergence through V6 and compatibility across multiple trait systems, Maverick provides flexibility throughout the season.

“As you start to see weed breakthroughs, applying Maverick at the 14-ounce rate delivers residual control through canopy,” says Will Griffin, row crop segment manager for Valent U.S.A.

Broad-Spectrum Control with Multiple Modes of Action

Maverick combines three effective modes of action—Group 4, Group 27 and Group 15—to deliver broad-spectrum control of large-seeded broadleaves, small-seeded broadleaves and annual grasses.

This combination provides strong resistance management while maintaining long-lasting residual activity at a low use rate.

Proven Performance in Field Trials

In trials, Maverick applied at 32 fluid ounces per acre with 0.75 pounds of atrazine per acre outperformed Acuron^® applied at the recommended 3 quarts (96 fluid ounces per acre).

In another trial, Maverick provided equivalent control to Acuron at 3 quarts per acre and greater control than Resicore^® applied at the recommended 2.75 quarts per acre rate—without the addition of atrazine.

“Maverick can be tank mixed with other products, including atrazine, making it easy to use for growers and custom applicators,” Griffin says. “The three modes of action also make it an excellent fit for resistance management.”

Flexible Use Across Corn Systems

Maverick is labeled for use in field corn, seed corn, silage and yellow popcorn.

Application rates include:

• Preemergence: 18–32 fluid ounces per acre (based on soil type)
• Postemergence: 14 fluid ounces per acre
